Holy Communion
The Lord's Supper

In Holy Communion the Lutheran Church acknowledges the teaching of the Scriptures, that Christ's true body and blood are present with the bread and wine, and that we receive the forgiveness of sins and strength for our bodies and souls in the Sacrament. Because of this, we value God's desire that we participate in this Sacrament often. Since St. Paul says, "Let a person examine himself and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup," (1 Corinthians 11:28) we believe that prior to communing a person should ask himself or herself:

  1. Do I believe in the Triune God?
  2. Have I sinned?
  3. Do I repent?
  4. Do I trust in the atoning sacrifice of Jesus for the forgiveness of my sins and for eternal life?
  5. Do I promise that I will amend my sinful life, with the help of the Holy Spirit?
  6. Do I know by faith that in the Sacrament I am receiving the very Body and Blood of Jesus Christ?

As a Lutheran congregation, we also believe in receiving both the bread/Body and wine/Blood in the Sacrament, not just one.

Baptized Christians who have been instructed in the LORD's Supper and share the faith in Christ which we proclaim are welcome at the LORD's Table. Those not receiving the sacrament, including small children, are encouraged to come to the altar, cross their arms over their chests, and receive a special blessing.
