1998 Dear
Pastor and Congregation: What
does the Bible say about the Lords Supper? As
one who accepts our Lutheran principle of Sola Scriptura as our rule for
faith and life, we trust you will welcome this Bible Study. This study is limited
to Scripture passages which concern the Eucharist. It does not deal with the witness
of our Lutheran Confessions to which we all subscribe nor does it quote resolutions
of Synod since they do not establish doctrine. The
four sessions are designed for one-hour periods. Discussion questions are included
since it is essential that Holy Communion be a matter of each individuals
relationship in Christ. In
response to the many requests we received for Bible class material, this Bible
Study is a follow-up to our Celebrate! document
which was mailed to you Pentecost 1996. Thanks to several of our group who prepared
this study. Thanks also to those who have contributed so generously to cover the
cost of printing and mailing. Feel
free to make copies of this study for your classes and to share it with others.
Please pray that it may accomplish that which pleases God. Cordially
in Christ, For
the committee, August
