Uncle Kenny’s Barbecue wins Grand Champion prize at Downtown BBQ Cook-off


Maintaining his title for another year, Kenny Nadeau of Uncle Kenny’s Barbecue in Winter Garden took home top honors in the Pulled Pork and People’s Choice categories and a 2nd place for Chicken, along with the Grand Champion’s trophy and $1,900 prize money from the 2nd annual Downtown BBQ Cook-off and Family Festival Aug. 28. The cook-off was sponsored by Trinity Downtown at 123 E. Livingston St. in Orlando, across from the Orange County Courthouse.

Sixteen teams started off with 40 pounds of Boston butt pork and chicken thighs to come up with a unique and tasty sauce, rub or roasting technique to win the judges and attendees votes. Other winners included Blackwater Barbecue in Orlando — 2nd in pulled pork, 1st place for chicken and 2nd in Grand Champion points; Barbecue Grill Depot in Orlando — 3rd in pulled pork, 3rd in chicken and 3rd in Grand Champion points; Baby Carlos team — 2nd in People’s Choice voting; and Red Eye Barbecue — 3rd in People’s Choice. The event also featured live entertainment, vendors, a water-themed Kids Zone with slides and pools, games and a watermelon-eating contest.
