THRIVENT FINANCIAL PROVIDES TWO GRANTS TO LUTHERAN WORLD RELIEF TO AID TSUNAMI SURVIVORS

Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is providing two grants to Lutheran World Relief (LWR) to help support LWR's "Wave of Giving" campaign, a long-term recovery effort to rebuild lives, create livelihoods and restore dignity to millions affected by the tragic events of Dec. 26 in Southern Asia. We are providing an immediate $1 million grant to LWR to aid in the most urgent needs created by this disaster. We will match, dollar-for-dollar up to $2 million, individual gifts from Thrivent Financial members to LWR. The matching grant deadline is April 15, 2005. (See more information later in this article.)

With member gifts, this will be a total of up to $5 million in Thrivent Financial disaster assistance.

Because LWR is an eligible organization for Thrivent Financial's GivingPlus® program, members also can make an additional gift to support the mission of LWR through GivingPlus. They should use the GivingPlus® form in the Fraternal Programs area of thrivent.com to make their added gift to LWR.

$2 million member-gift-matching offer To have their gifts to LWR matched through the $2 million member-gift-matching offer, Thrivent Financial members will need to complete a form, which will be available next week on www.thrivent.com, and send it, along with their donation, to Lutheran World Relief-South Asia Tsunami, P.O. Box 17061, Baltimore, MD, 21298-9832.

Members can access information about the $2 million member-gift-matching offer in the Fraternal Programs area of thrivent.com at www.thrivent.com/fraternal/tsunami.html. The form is scheduled to be added to that area next week.

Additional information about Thrivent Financial's pledge to aid tsunami survivors is available via a news release sent earlier today.

Important: This $2 million member-gift-matching offer is not a chapter program, and it is not like the Hurricane Response Challenges, which are being coordinated through the chapters. Because this offer to aid tsunami survivors is a member-gift-match, only gifts made by Thrivent Financial members directly to LWR and this disaster response will qualify for matching funds. Thrivent chapters and community service teams can and are encouraged to organize their own tsunami disaster recovery fund-raising activities, but cannot match funds raised through the $2 million member-gift-matching offer.

Soon after the member-gift-matching form for this disaster relief is posted on www.thrivent.com next week, the above information will be communicated to chapter leaders and congregational coordinators who have an e-mail address on file with Thrivent Financial. They can share information about the LWR appeal to aid tsunami survivors and the $2 million member-gift-matching offer with Thrivent Financial members. The e-mail will include a link to www.thrivent.com/fraternal/tsunami.html and to the form.
